The need to Support USNAAA SD Chapter Events & Fundraising: In support of the Chapter’s Mission and Vision, the USNAAA SD Chapter requires San Diego area support and funding so that key activities and functions for the Navy Blue & Gold Officers (BGOs), the Naval Academy and the USNA Alumni can be achieved in four ways. These are:First, provide support to San Diego region Navy Blue & Gold Officers (BGOs) in activities and functions used to identify and recruit the finest candidates for admission to the Naval Academy. Specific events sponsored by the Chapter to help support this important mission are: Sponsorship of the annual Plebe Dinner for incoming midshipmen nominated for admission to USNA from the San Diego area. At this annual dinner event, Midshipmen presently attending USNA from the San Diego area are also invited and sponsored. A second BGO activity, co-sponsored by the Chapter, is the annual Holiday Reception during the December timeframe.  This reception is normally held onboard a Naval Combatant in San Diego and provides all candidates interested in admission to USNA from San Diego an opportunity to tour the ship and ask questions of USNA graduates and BGOs. In addition, the BGOs request Chapter financial assist whenever possible to assist in USNA candidate lunches and recruiting events throughout the year.Second, support USNA athletic teams and clubs that visit the San Diego region throughout the year. During these visits, USNA sports teams and clubs request the Chapter assist them financially whenever possible. Financial assistance the teams and clubs often seek are funds to defray the cost of their transportation, meals incidental expenses. Recent USNA team visits requesting Chapter support were the USNA Rugby Club team, the Womens Glee Club, the USNA Lacrosse team and the USNA Crew team.Third, the Chapter requires resources to sponsor and conduct events throughout the year to meet the needs of Chapter alumni and the San Diego community. These events include the holding monthly luncheons at Tom Hams on Harbor Island, conducting the monthly Chapter Networking Happy Hour at Karl Strauss Mission Valley, holding the annual Army-Navy football game at Seau’s restaurant in Mission Valley, and when financially possible, the Chapter sponsoring items like Golf carts for enlisted sailors during the annual Fleet Week golf tournament at Admiral Baker.
Fourth, contributions enable us to bring midshipmen to the San Diego area and provide the Naval Academy rare West Coast exposure. In addition to this exposure being extremely important to USNA candidate recruiting, it concurrently affords midshipmen the athletic competition necessary for the development of our future Navy and Marine Corps Officers.
In order for USNAAA SD Chapter to sponsor these key events and activities and to assist the Chapter in its Mission, funds must be raised. Through successful fundraising events, contributions and support, the Chapter can continue its important mission and have impact for the Naval Academy, the San Diego Community and its Chapter membership.
