ADM Baker Clubhouse, November 14 at 6:30pm

6:30 pm Book sales and signing

7:00 pm Leadership lessons from the Long War.  A conversation with the authors of In the Shadow of Greatness.

The evening of Wednesday, November 14, 2012, will be a night to remember for the Navy, Marine Corps, and the community of San Diego. Come to the Admiral Baker Clubhouse, recognize the sacrifice of those lost on 9/11, the wars abroad, and learn more about the new book Tom Brokaw is calling "a must read for all Americans".  The event coincides with the Veterans Week campaign, an unprecedented initiative that affords veteran organizations 100% of author profits (see list below).

All are welcome, it is open to the public and the Naval Academy family is encouraged to attend. Light food will be provided, no-host cash bar. Direct questions for coordination to Chris Cisek USNA '02.

Co-authors Jason Jackson, Will Carr, and Dan Ross will share personal vignettes of service and highlight the other magnificent tales of courage from the book, explaining how the LA Times Best Seller is now on the Chief of Naval Operations' 2013 Reading List.

About the Book: They were some of the first patriots to graduate after 9/11/01 and entered a nation at war. In the Shadow of Greatness addresses issues that go beyond one Annapolis class, it explains the trials of most military veterans of this era. Understanding how a young person enlists to serve, deploys to the fight, and returns home is unknown to most Americans. In exchange for down range scars, they gained an unbreakable sense of purpose to America's ideals "freedom, equality, and democracy". The compilation is the seminal read on the leadership of this generation and is described as the most authentic and raw narrative to emerge from the Wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and beyond.

&n Veterans Week: Purchases of In the Shadow of Greatness from 11/12 to 11/18 will support the following organizations: The Travis Manion Foundation, Run to Honor, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, The Matt Freeman Project, Semper Fi Fund, Mission Continues, Veterans Campaign, Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, Team RWB, Challenged Athlete Foundation, and Fenix281.org.
