CAPT (sel) Mark Sanders (USNA 89) recently returned from Operation IRAQI FREEDOM where he served as Deputy Commander of Combined Joint Task Force TROY, Iraq’s Counter-IED brigade task force.  Prior to this assignment he commanded EOD Training and Evaluation ONE in San Diego where he was responsible for advanced training of EOD forces deploying to OIF and OEF.  CDR Sanders has also served with to U. S. Joint Forces Command as the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Defeat and Counter-IED lead action officer tasked to coordinate JFCOM’s support to the Dept of Defense Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) and U.S. Central Command.  CDR Sanders has earned two Master’s Degrees and is qualified as a Joint Specialty Officer and Master EOD Technician.  His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and four Meritorious Service Medals. CDR Jack Downes (USNA 94) also recently returned from a Mobilization to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM where he served as the Officer in Charge of Iraqi Security Force Partnership and Transition for Combined Joint Task Force TROY.  Prior to being mobilized for duty in Iraq he was a SELRES assigned to EOD Expeditionary Support Unit ONE in Coronado where he served as the XO of the Reserve Component.  CDR Downes is a Master EOD Technician and his personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Meritorious Service Medals.
