The speaker was LT Mike Taylor ‘03 talking about Small Boat Ops in Iraq.

LT Michael Taylor was commissioned an Ensign in May of 2003 via the United States Naval Academy. He earned a bachelor of science in Economics and was a 4 year letter winner in varsity soccer.

Designated a Surface Warfare Officer, he reported to the USS Saipan LHA-2 in January 2004. For his first year onboard he served as the Second Division Officer, Deck Department and completed his tour as the Electrical Officer. While on board he earned his Surface Warfare Officer Pin and was named the Atlantic fleet ship driver of the year for large deck ships.

In April 2006, he was assigned to Riverine Squadron One. He served as the Riverine Maritime Interdiction Officer for Detachment two and in February 2007 deployed to Al Anbar Province in support of OIF 06-08. While deployed he conducted over 50 combat missions in the central Euphrates River Valley and Lake Thar Thar regions.
